Bog Transport

Earlier this spring, as the ice was breaking up, we found that a 6 foot x 6 foot “hunk” of bog had broken off the shoreline, and floated right into our dock. Given it had landed right where we swim and launch the kayaks, Henry and his cousin Liam set off to move it to a better spot. (Liam and his family had just arrived from Oregon 2 days prior, to stay with us for a few weeks. Little did he know, we were going to put him right to work! ;)

Gratefully, the bog was still floating and not lodged onto the lake bottom. With a little trial-and-error and whole-lot of paddling, Henry and Liam were able to guide the bog around the dock and down the shoreline, into a better, more permanent spot.

Who knew that this would be a problem to solve, and the way we’d spend an afternoon.

The Tamarack continues to surprise us at every turn.
