Boreal Chorus Frog
This is a boreal chorus frog. I found him perched in my basil plant. I’ve learned….
Chorus frogs are the most common frog species in Minnesota, though they commonly go unnoticed because of their small size. They are found throughout Minnesota. They like open habitats such as wetlands and fields near trees. Adults overwinter beneath the snow in leaf litter. To prevent freezing, the frogs produce glucose that prevents ice crystals from forming inside their bodies. Their organs shut down and their heart stops until the temperature rises again in the spring. The call of the western chorus frog is a rising creeee that sounds like a fingernail being dragged across a comb.
